In 2022, the Biden administration allocated around two hundred and fifty billion Dollars [$250b] to the chip and AI sectors. Around fifty billion Dollars [$50b] were given to companies in the explicit form of tax breaks and subsidies. A much larger sum – two hundred billion [$200b] – was instead distributed under the broad heading of public research funding.

There is complete continuity in the flow of public money between the Biden and Trump administrations, to the extent that we can now speak not of Artificial Intelligence, but of “Artificial Finance”.
