If we are differentiated aspects of an immanent field of pure awareness, then to inflict suffering or death on another being is, at the deepest level, to inflict it on ourselves. Solidarity is no longer an optional moral stance we can adopt or discard: it describes our true condition. Rejecting it may have serious consequences.
