we started watching my dead dad but it was a dud. we watched the commandant's shadow. i didn't know it's the real life story of the zone of interest. watching it i kept thinking about never again and the genocide of the moment in gaza. i kept wondering if the subjects in the documentary, a survivor of the death camp auschwitz and the son of the commandant, who said he never saw the black smoke or the human ashes drifting over the garden wall, i kept wondering if they would ever mention palestine, or gaza, and the extermination of the the palestinian people. they didn't, and i knew they wouldn't, and the real life story seemed like a performance of an inner lodged historical script in which we're all implicated, all complicit, all bereft.
