we saw vita activa, the spirit of hannah arendt last night, well mister didn't, and r. felt asleep, but i did, though i did nod, too. i think i got the spirit of her and was so impressed by how strong and clear she was about evil. she was so much smarter than her critics who seemed incapable of understanding human evil at all, stuck in the same unwitting paradigm that produced atrocities then in banal terror and continue to today.
it amazes me that she would be attacked for identifying the banality of evil and showing us how bureaucratic, how normal it is. there are many people now who do not even see trump as evil, or see him as merely crazy, who fail to see him as a horrific, but stupid and banal, symptom of the national human disease. perhaps most of us are crazy, and crazy is normal, and thus genocidal evil is ever our lot.
