bite by hungry bite we make the world smaller than ourselves.

more inchoate need. hunger for the world, by eyes, by mouth, by mooman.

hunger of the infant, hunger of the child,
for the world they desire,
hunger still grows,
hunger grown-up,
for the world they lost.

a theater of hungry ghosts, a world
in which being manipulated is a condition
of paradoxical freedom.

a hunger we are left with, of our own device,
a dog's hunger come to resemble our own,
a hunger that is devious in its innocence.
