when i open the blog it still shows the entry bones of the forest, from like three years ago, before they closed the island and put up a giant fence all round and began slashing all the non-native habitat. 
yesterday i was heartened to walk off the paths and see old friends who survived the onslaught, mainly because they were already "dead", stumps and fallen trees allowed to remain, that warm me with their slow decay and host fungi and moss and insects and various burrowing birds and small mammals. 

here we are in some sort of pause.
