memory maker. sally mann laments that photographs take the place of memories, but doesn't memory forget without photographs too? to my eyes photographs save and reflect and enhance memory which might otherwise be lost. even in the space of a day i forget what i recorded in the morning by the afternoon, and am often delighted to see it retained in camera. would you rather have photographs lost in memories or memories lost in photographs. maybe the photographs are tunnels.
