we come we see we conquer we trash we burn. the most american, most savage holiday is over. the lakefront strewn with human waste, and fires still burning, the revelers nursing their freedom hangovers. i put out one fire that was smoking our swim. this holiday says, we don't put out fires, we start them. we love war, celebrate war, and since we don't get adequate coverage of our wars abroad we load up on explosives here. once again, it was calm on the lake, and we swam far out. the fires got smaller with the people. and i could again imagine peace, even feel the reality of peace that underlies our endless destruction.
