reading the book by this kid i felt connection, like i'm in the same continuum with him, i'm old and on the other side of the Earth, and i don't have autism i guess, but i relate to his feelings, and feelthe soul importance of water, of being in water, and drawing comfort from animals and nature, and the dire feeling of destruction we are doing, the senselessness. he with the help of his mom found a way to write. i take heart from that, that i may too find a way too. i bow low to you, naoki.

i think that people with autism are born outside the regime of civilization. sure, this is just my own made-up theory, but i think that, as a result of all the killings in the world and the selfish planet-wrecking that humanity has committed, a deep sense of crisis exists. autism has somehow arisen out of this. although people with autism look like other people physicallly, we are in fact very different in many ways. we are more like travellers from the distant, distant past. and if, by our being here, we coud help the people of the world remember what truly matters for the Earth, that would give us a quiet pleasure. the reason i jump, by naoki higashida, a thirteen year old japanese boy.
