last night i met charlemagne palestine and his beautiful wife aude. i'm very grateful and touched by both. he showed his video works which are passionate in their immediacy, timeless and incantatory. i wanted to tell him that sometimes i listen to his strumming and holy musics through the night and am protected therein from the thug below. but i can tell him that on monday when i hear him in rockefeller chapel. he showed one film of him riding around an island humming and chanting gotta get out a here! over and over and ending at the edge with the surf as coda. another one in a pet graveyard dancing and singing with two of his guys, animals from his travelling alter. delightful. he has struggled and been true and young pirates have rediscovered him and launched him on you tube and he is full of gratitude and with the ebullient air of one who is lauded not for being famous but for being real. praise and love, charlemagne and aude. |
