the fire alarm at the top of the stairs has been ringing for days. each time they reset it it starts ringing again. it's a different tone than the ringing in my ears. there's so much going on, it overwhelms the neurons, the cells. the alarm is ringing through our bodies, throughout the building burning exploding world. through our bodies in fear and exhaustion to the nature of the lost world. we look for light and see fire with burning eyes, and the alarm rings and rings and cannot be silenced in the lost world.

 

 It's a cult of personality. When he says Hope and Change, he's using the stratagem of cruel optimism. He means You Hope, and I Change. When he says Yes, We Can, he means Yes, I can, watch and see. We means he. He means more money, more property.

 The new leaders prove their status as outsiders vis-à-vis the traditional political elites by ostentatiously breaking the accepted rules of engagement. Much of their charisma is derived from playing the part of the rogue. They do and say everything that most of their followers would want to do and say. [  ] Populist politicians are attacking the representatives of the establishment in order to topple them and take their place. Diogenes' aim is to show that the establishment does not have real power.
