we still had bear time left so we went to the park. by the playground there's a green indentation bear stuck her head into. a few feet away i saw a bunny and it was funny bear didn't see. then i wondered what she did see and i said what bear and she lifted her head up and had a bunny almost invisibly hidden in her mouth. i said bear drop and she did! the bunny just sat there probably wondering if it was alive or a ghost, a drop of saliva on its back. the same thing happened with hilde and i remarked then and now how soft the mouth of a dog can be, how gentle the prey instinct.

behind the museum a large flock of geese were hanging out in the long grass. as soon as they saw little bear coming they boogied into the water and then felt safe and stayed still looking at bear and me and bear was contemplating goose. then she got all excited her instinct kicking in and she might have jumped in with them but we boogied for home.
we ran to drop off the rent and went right to 57th st beach and it was empty even of gulls. we found a flying squirrel dog toy and flew it out for bear and she swam farther out with me. it's a big thing trusting someone in the water at this young age and i feel grateful and we go gently. she's still relieved to get back to land and roll in the grass. we get awake from the water and then the air and sun feel good on our skin. we feel good together and that right there makes the world good.
