i'm reading the posthumous book of joan didion's notes to john and i did wonder what she might be thinking about publication. some say that it's a gross violation and she'd be horrified. i think she left them for us to read, or given her propensity for control, she would have secured or destroyed them. she could have had them locked up in an archive for scholars or publication in 100 years. the thing is she was working on the limits, and the dangers, of control. she was looking for liberation.
