Art therapists, in particular, need to recognize and honor the identities, values, and worldviews of those they serve to build a culturally relevant practice, and SAIC is punishing Professor Talwar for upholding these values and educating her art therapy students to engage complex ideas, critical thinking, and multiple perspectives.
The actions of SAIC in this case are in complete opposition to these values, violate academic freedom, and are clear censorship. Professor Talwar should not be suspended and brought under investigation for mentioning Palestinians in a case study for an art therapy class. Palestinians are real people and violence against Palestinians is a fact. Censorship of these realities is philosophically and academically irresponsible as well as being morally reprehensible.
