jeff koons announced his retirement from commercial art. he said he had a religious epiphany similar to his calling to make commercial art while getting rich on the stock market. i heard him say at the art institute how he vowed he would make money on commercial art like he did on the stock market. he was a hot commodity. a winner. he seemed to have no feeling, just a hard shallow veneer. the thing that excited him was the accumulation. he felt the mission to make money and show that the art market was the same as wall street. strange that a person could feel a calling from money, god of the peak market cynic. money's the god zealots think they can control. that's this culture, though. it'll always be strange to me. reading on, the epiphany calling koons to quit the calling comes along with reversals in his shiny industry. lawsuits, dropped sales, layoffs, downsizing, and so on. what comes after the calling, and calling it quits?
