i think just having a utopian vision is important because it can make people stop and think about the way they're living or what society looks like and whether there might be ways of making it better. i've always believed that good society is never fully possible, but it's a kind of horizon. it's always a disappearing horizon, but you can see its contours if not its details. you can see images of a better society. it's there, it's real, and it has its own gravitational force. that's where i think a utopian vision really helps.
