it was gratifying to return to pebble beach this morning and see that it looks pretty good. i'm proud that i picked up those six bags of garbage. i think i will do it more often. it's not much, but do feel something is accomplished and it adds to my enjoyment of our favorite beach. and it can be done while copper diligently plays. he was cute today. he tried to fit a ball and a bottle in his mouth, eventually surrendering one and returning after depositing the other.  sometimes he comes back with something other than what i've thrown, like a vodka bottle, or this chunk of wood. he's proud when he lands something bigger than the one he was sent for.
we learned it is possible to retrieve lost blogs too, so dugsdogblog may come back on an imminent tide. and then i'll mentally surrender it to the ethersphere where it will orbit like a spent planet ad infinitum. but i'll know it's there, sealed in it's thin conscious-breathing atmosphere, relatively safe. i know i can't go back, but i do, for my virtual bones, to retrieve some indefinable thing, and release it again. maybe the act of retrieval is not dull-witted, but as eternal and necessary as the tide.
