when charlie went in the jewish new year hut the kid at the door asked if i was a jew and i said no and he said i think your dog is and i let it pass without comment but in my head i said no, she's not—there are no jewish dogs. several times a jewish person has asked me that and i used to say maybe 1/4? now i just say no, which is true. no one in my family ever identified as a jew, in fact they tried to hide the fact back when it was true. this morning i was glad to see the israeli table had disappeared and the palestinian table still there, with a tree of suspended jars and bottles too. then a dog we know came running across with an israeli bandana tied around his neck. i said cooper stay neutral, be at peace, stay cool, for you are a dog, not an israeli, nor a jew.
