feeling the heat.
many of these south side communities are formerly redlined areas and suffer not only from higher levels of air pollution and asthma rates, due to bearing a heavy burden of pollution and industry, but from temperatures that are five degrees hotter than other areas of the city.
the solution to chicago’s unequal tree distribution requires action taken by the city of chicago to stop tree cuttings and create landscape ordinances that protect trees in perpetuity, regardless of changes in political administrations.
++++
it's a blight on the whole landscape and the health of all. but the article doesn't mention the obamachron.
i write to the tribune: i appreciate the article feeling the heat, though no mention is made of the obama center clearcutting. obama gets a free pass, while he clearcuts thousands of trees and creates a heat island and the privatization of parkland which will inevitably expand involving the loss of many more trees.
