there was a kind fellow on the island in the garden with an orchard ladder who explained when i remarked on the clarity of the water the pump was broke so it was being filled with city water. we watched the koi. he said the fish that look like catfish but somebody said were carp but they are rubbery looking with whiskers, that they are getting eaten more now the water is clear. he also said geese have been known to sit on the heads of swimming dogs til they drown and i laughed and said they swim with copper, perhaps since he is web footed they think he is a water god. the image is funny, i can imagine copper trying to swim with a goose hat and me dogpaddling out to wrestle a crazy goose to save my godling.
