I've been going to Pebble Beach for many years. I've seen the changes, the limestone sea wall I used to walk with my golden retriever, slowly, then rapidly, collapsing. With all the changes, the place retained its particular spirit and beauty. Though my dog is gone, I still love the place, and I fear it will be altered irrevocably by the Army Corps. I've seen the changes the Army Corps has imposed on large sections of the lakefront, and I've felt desolation, the feeling that the lake and the city have been separated by a wall, where the lake is stopped, and a prohibitive concrete bulwark placed where virtually no one goes.
I and others who love the lake and Pebble Beach would like to see the integrity of the place preserved, with the limestone sea wall restored,
and the feeling of natural sanctuary.
I understand the need to protect the drive by extending the shore, but I hope the plan can respect the beloved character and history of Pebble Beach.
