i called this a nazi petroglyph. i was wrong. it was twisted the opposite way by the nazis. when i saw it i wondered if the face was an indigenous turtle islander but due to the israeli holocaust i must have had nazis in mind. the original swastika was a global symbol, of wellbeing and peace, also associated with ganesha who overcomes obstacles and opens the way to good fortune, had a swastika on his palm. in navajo the swastika represents a whirling log, the river vehicle of the culture hero. now i see this petroglyph in a new light and love it.
