seems like we are the virus and corona is the vaccine, someone said. in italy where the whole country is in lockdown nature is dancing. the canals of venice are clear and fishes and dolphins are returning. one of my dog families is under lockdown, and another says status quo, doug! what will nature do when—if—the old status quo returns. vanish again to the margins, survive until the next epidemic? i think again about the book the world without us, about the human collapse and the resilience of nature. question—nature will survive us, but can we survive ourselves?
