andrei rublev didn't work. r. didn't like. she has no interest in russia. i do. i've always felt a connection to something in the russian spirit. though maybe it's a bygone russia and maybe something wild rather than the civilization. like here. the civilization, other than the art, is mostly a chronicle of conquest. 
it's a hard movie to like though i admit. it's strange and disjointed. i don't like it much either, not like other tarkovsky films.
i'll watch the extras and see if i find a way in.
