tonight there are two gatherings, one to voice dissent on the management of jackson park and the trend toward overmanagement for more human consumption and further reduction of natural habitat, and the other a gathering to hear a so called doomsday ecologist, and i may stay at home reading the lightning field and here i'm already feeling shame in the prospect along with anger at the prospects and done deals both local and global. there's only so much a boy can do i plead, while the boy does nothing. yet i am grateful to those who do, and they give me hope in despair, a balance within the strict margins of cultural imbalance. if it is all for nought, it's heartening to see a vision of preservation, a beautiful map of what could be, it was right there in our hands, this time.

thanks to the birders, renate and eric, for the beautiful map and the vision it grew from.
