when i read monk's wittgenstein bio i thought it funny that wittgenstein was an anti-philosopher, and that was the basis of his philosophy. i think that's the appeal of ludwig. he really did stay present and came out of a dark time of war with deep insights. reading marjorie perloff on l.w. i'm immersed in his poetry, in the vitality of his poetic presence, which was his mode, his anti-philosphy, his dedication to the struggle of language in a violently constructed world. still i note that i have not read more than fragments of his books, and novels of his life. i think in my way i'm imbibing his spirit, in my late-found conditional sobriety, ha.
