we saw the movie macbeth. it was ravishingly beautiful and visceral, but we felt dumb trying to follow the words. are we dumber now, has our language devolved? i may have got put off by my teacher in college who said i would be cast as a perfect shakespearean girl. he wouldn't say that now. i think i did dumb down some, but i doubt i would have got the lingo anyhow.
