i read about the humboldt squid in california. they figured with the hotter water they'd migrate north, but they found there were more than ever, but they grew smaller by half, and twice as fast, and their mouths are too small for the hooks now and the ones that are caught get thrown back as juveniles. that's plasticity, which is a funny term for adaptability considering the sea is choked with plastic. we better have plasticity to survive the age of plastic and the war on terror, but who among us has the plasticity of the squid?
