ahm free. the rest of today. feel like i did as a kid when i stayed home sick. a little bashful and giddy in my freedom, though i'm confined to the house, and it's sunny outside and not even like winter. i'm listening to ill considered, a great band from london. i finished the way of coyote, and liked it, some parts less than others, some of the animal stories, but they were like urban versions of indigenous coyote tales i guess. the spirit is right, weaving animal and human need together in the city, the city seen as an ecosystem, not just a system. i think the focus on money and human utility removes us from the ecosystem and traps us in the system. the way of the coyote solves the trap. the coyote eludes, goes around it, or weaves through it, and we can do it too, to whatever extent possible in our individual lives. with dogs the idea was to be as free as possible within a complex network of interlaced activity. we all have some individual limitations, and the system imposes others, but we all want freedom, and money doesn't buy it, it has to be wild in a tamed world, a made world. coyotes show how wild animals can live in a manufactured place, not separately, but subtly inhabiting. freedom within the system makes the system an ecosystem, and liberates us from the benumbing constraints of a systemic oppression of a life in pursuit of money. community rather than competition, relation, rather than exclusion, coexistence. the essence of the book and the coyote way is appreciation of the reality that we all struggle inextricably together in the city, we are all connected by design, and by choice, we can help each other as we help ourselves.
