when you speak a word to a listener, the speaking is an act. and it is a mutual act: the listener’s listening enables the speaker’s speaking. it is a shared event, intersubjective: the listener and speaker entrain with each other.     -ursula leguin

i speak a lot to the dogs. sometimes it's just to hear myself think, and sometimes it's to engage with them. i was reading the above in today's brainpickings. i don't recall knowing the word entrain, but i like it. when i was with lulu today i said i don't teach as much as play and engage, and now i can say fancily, i entrain. amoebas do it, even humans do it, though they may not know what they do. like bodies, and body with another body that sticks around and has feels a connection, an affinity, entrains.

 so cool.
