i was talking with jim on the corner of the gentrification going on here, how obomba wants the neighborhood to be a millennium park, and all the neighborhoods on the lakefront will be turned into one long sweeping megacity enterprise zone designed for the wealthy and tourists. it was always, with all it's peculiar corruptions, a city of neighborhoods, but that seems like a vision in a kaleidoscope, and now the rich are out to destroy neighborhood in the cause of progress, which is always the progress of the rich and the destruction of ordinary individuals and neighborhoods and a grand sweep of the poor to the poorer, undesirable zones. obomba says sacrifices must be made, meaning people, and neighborhoods must be sacrificed for the real estate they presume to inhabit, neighborhoods must be turned to enterprise zones, like plowshares into arms. collateral damage is a euphemism for murder in the margins, and everyone in the way or sitting on something the speculators want, is marginal. at home it's the other end of the kaleidoscope of market speculation. see it come together, watch it fracture and fall apart.
