sorry mary

sorry mary.

A friend of mine who lives in the suburbs saw the piece and sent me unsolicited comments.
I print them below as they were sent to me.  I do not include them to offend anyone; just thought the perspective of someone from outside the discussion zone might be of interest.

"Just watched the Chicago Tonight segment on WTTW with four people debating the Obama Center.  Poor optics where there are two old white folks arguing against the center, and two folks of color arguing for.  Tom Mitchell made no sense in that he was pushing for Washington Park, apparently he forgot that that site is also part of the Olmsted park with century old trees that would also come down.  This just felt like the Hyde Park elite didn’t want the center in their backyard.  They made no friends or converts, in fact I think they just did themselves great harm."

Mary

sorry, mary, the site is adjacent washington park, not in it. nonsense on the elite comment, many groups are opposed to the jackson park site. it's not the elite that want the park, it's the elite that want to take it from the people, mary. in fact, the two shills for the opc did the opc even more harm, than they've already done by threatening the public park system and undermining community. [ed.]

That is your optics; I was sharing my friend’s optics – who has no stake or particular interest in these never ending debates.
So the other night you cut off discussion with me because I was “entrenched.”  I can say the same about you.  I have no particular interest in continuing discussion on this topic with you.  So let’s agree to disagree and not bother to comment on each other’s posts.

Best Mary

hmm, you use the same term, optics. i'll comment when i see fit, mary. my only wish is to point out prejudice and to save our park from private enterprise. it is a public park. that is your optics, sorry mary, your optics are entrenched. [ed.]

ok, this as you can tell is a wasteful dialog, and i will try to refrain. community activists and people who care about saving parks are working on this, and we need to focus on that, not on arguing with small minded shills.
