the first time we went on the island together mister and i saw a coyote in this exact place. as soon as i noticed and said, look mister! the coyote ran and mister ran after. the place was different then, even in winter, it was more lush and full of vegetation. the water was frozen and they ran across the lagoon. i stood by the bridge and minutes later mister came back and i sighed and thanked the coyote spirit. this is the first coyote we've seen since they began exterminating the invasive species, and i sighed a deep sigh of thanks, like a benediction. maybe animal, vegetal, nature and spirit will suceed in invading human nature again. maybe we can never fully rid the megalopolis of the refugees.
there were several free dogs too, dogs and coyote, and heron and cormorant and diving ducks and happy birders all together. even the beaver have returned, and the muskrats. and if this place were allowed and ecosystem as it were might flourish. but the obomba library and the tiger woods golf course will likely preclude that. maybe this is the last magic time. for this time we will walk freely and seek the coyote spirit, rebuff the idiots who would keep us on the leash and on the path.
