the heathen deities are represented as governed by the vilest passions, and guilty of the most atrocious crimes. their worship is celebrated in splendid and costly habits, in sacrifice, of animals, and human victims. these sacrifices are sometimes accompanied by prayer, music and dancing, and are frequently attended with the most impure and licentious rites. this system, is, therefore, little calculated to promote virtue in its voters.
